3D-Micromac concludes successful tool demonstration at TSI

After 4 months of testing Topcell Solar International (TSI) determined that the 3D-Micromac PERC laser structuring tool microSTRUCT OTF is suitable for volume production and qualifies to TSI internal guidelines. The demo period was successfully closed with efficiencies meeting the internal baseline standard.

According to Kane Liu, director of the equipment division at TSI, Topcell was pleasantly surprised about 3D-Micromac’s capabilities and support. “Before the machine was on site, I had my doubts about 3D-Micromacs alternative approach”, he explained,“3D-Micromac is relatively new at PV industry, but their engineers revealed good experience and managed to fix our issues with good response time”. “After one week of on-site application support, 3D-Micromac easily proved that they could achieve our benchmark efficiency, even with a new pattern which we never expected to work.”

Furthermore, TSI was surprised about the simplicity and durability of the machine. The “on-the-fly” contactless handling system has almost no moving parts which limits the maintenance requirements and makes the tool operator and service friendly. Together with the industrially proven IR nanosecond laser, this solution has the lowest cost of maintenance in the industry. Combined with a record productivity of 3600 wafers per hour, 3D-Micromac offers the most costeffective solution for wafer backside structuring.
